The case arises from healthcare negligently provided to Jason during and after spinal decompression surgery that left him permanently injured.
In February 2022, Jason underwent spinal surgery at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center (also known as Atrium) in Macon, Georgia. In performing the surgery, Dr. Wayne Kelley, Jr. violated the standard of care by using a posterior approach, injuring Jason’s spinal cord and resulting in permanent neurologic deficits, including paralysis and incontinence.
Following the surgery, Jason was met with additional negligence as nurses employed by the hospital failed to monitor, clean, and reposition him per the post-operative standard of care, causing Jason further pain and suffering.
